Congratulations, Mayor

Roger Hernandez is now the youngest mayor to serve the city of West Covina.

Congratulations.

Well, I am incredibly sorry I was unable to attend, but was my mailbox filled to the brim this morning.

Among some of the emails reads:

"You should have been there. I hate to admit how many of these things I've been to, and this is the first time I've ever seen such enthusiasm by the people in the audience."

"There was like, a standing ovation. People doing the Arsenio Hall 'woo, woo, woo' thing."

"The party after was awesome. You should have seen Herb Redholtz! If Steve Herfert knew his loyal minion was having such a blast at his sworn enemy's party, he'd pull him off the Planning Commission so fast his head would spin."

"It was a great, positive evening, and I only hope it's an indicator of what kind of leader we will have in City Hall."

"This appointment was a long-time coming, and I'm so glad Herfert the Hater wasn't there to ruin the moment."

Thanks, readers. It looks like I didn't have to write much of anything.

I will say this, though: I think, Mayor, you're going to do a great job. While the position is mostly ceremonial, it is also your responsibility to chair the meetings and to be fair. If I were in your position, I'd want to take revenge out on everybody. But from what I hear, your eloquent speech hinted that your leadership is going to be one of teamwork through a year of what is probably going to be very tough.

Well, this is a new low, even for the cellar dwelling . I was there to pay my respects to the new mayor. I was not alone. Shelley Sanderson, Andy Pasmant, Arnold Glasman, Tom Bachman, Commissioners Colleen Rozatti, Glenn Kennedy, Dave Stuart, and other non Hernandez appointees were there also. The purpose of a party is to have fun. I will not apoligize for having fun. As for Councilman Herfert, he knows where my loyalities are. I'll leave it at that.

Wait.... Shelley was there? How come no one told me? Dude, relax. You were having a good time, as I'm sure most people were. No one's bashing you.

I'm going to assume that as an appointed official for the City of West Covina, your loyalties are with the residents of the City of West Covina and not any one particular councilmember or group of councilmembers, your appointer or not.

As a planning commissioner, I make my decisions based on what is best for the City, its residents and those who do business here. My loyalities are to effective local goveernment, doing what I believe to be the right thing on a case by case basis. I stand by my previous statement.

I, for one, am glad Herb went to Roger's party, and very grateful to see so many people who make this city great there as well. Herb, it looked like you had a great time and I was really glad to see it, especially since my date didn't want to dance :-( Why can't I find a boy who can dance?!?!?!
